CDP News: Nov. 21, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. The holidays are approaching, but we’ve still got plenty to do on the training front!

This marks the final week to register for the CDP’s Southeast Regional Civilian 1-Week Training. The final 1-week training of the year will be held 8-12 December in Miami, FL. This event provides training on a variety of deployment-spectrum behavioral health concerns facing the military population. If you’re interested in working with Service members, Veterans and their families, it’s a great opportunity to enhance your skills. Check out the event’s page for more details or to register before next Friday.

If you’re interested in training a little closer to home, we’ve got a Prolonged Exposure Therapy training delivered via Adobe Connect on 18-19 December. We’ve run several online training events recently and they’ve been very well received. Due to the strong demand for our last online PE training event we decided to hold one more before the end of the year. Registration is $27 and comes with 13.5 CEUs. Space is limited for this event and registration is filling up, so if you’re interested in taking part, sign up soon!

The CDP was very proud to provide the online platform for the Joining Forces Wellness Week webinar series. These webinars focused on a different aspects of military behavioral health issues. If you missed out on these presentation, you’re in luck! We have recordings of all of them available for on demand viewing right here. We encourage everyone to take a look at these valuable webinars.

The CDP has created a new program for those interested in a career in military behavioral health, the CDP Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military-Focused Internship.  We’re partnering with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) with this program which is designed to raise awareness of military behavioral health careers and to increase students’ competitiveness for military-focused internships. This six-day training course, held from 8-13 June 2015, will bring participants to D.C. to receive training in a variety of topics. The CDP will assist with costs of travel, room and board. For most attendees, this financial assistance will be sufficient to cover all costs. We also encourage students local to the D.C. area to apply and attend the program. For more information, please visit the program’s page here.

Also, don’t forget to read this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with the latest in news, journal articles and useful links from all around the Web.

That’s it for this time around. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you back here next week for a new entry in the By the Numbers column.
