CDP News: Oct. 10, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. After a busy week, everyone’s looking forward to the long weekend, but first we’ve got plenty to talk about from this and next week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Dr. Holly O’Reilly and Dr. Marjorie Weinstock were in New Paltz, NY to deliver a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression at the Institute for Disaster Mental Health as part of our Speakers Bureau program. If you or your organization would like to host a CDP speaker, please visit our Speakers Bureau page for more information or to submit a request.

Also, on Wednesday and Thursday, CDP Executive Director Dr. David Riggs was in Macon, GA to present a tier-3 training for the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. For more information about the tiered training and the SBHP program, click here to visit the program page.

Due to the holiday next Monday, it’ll be a short week, but we’ve still got plenty on the agenda.  CDP Deputy Director, Dr. Bill Brim will be delivering a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Turin, Italy next week. Then, a little closer to home, we’ll be having “open houses” on Tuesday and Wednesday to get participants ready for the online Prolonged Exposure Training we’re holding in Adobe Connect at the end of this month.

This week also featured the release of another CDP Voices podcast, “The Role of Re-Experiencing in PTSD”. In it, Dr. Kelly Chrestman discusses the definition, symptoms and reasons behind re-experiencing or “flashbacks” in PTSD. As with Dr. Brim’s recent podcast on sleep, this is the first entry in a longer series that will examine common questions on the topic of PTSD. Check out our podcasts page for future episodes in Dr. Chrestman’s series, as well as others!

Speaking of podcasts, in the CDP Blog this week, the Staff Perspective was by Chris Adams. In it he took a look at the CDP’s recent podcasts. These informative recordings by CDP staff members are a great way to learn about a variety of topics. We’re always open to suggestions, so if you’ve got an idea on something you’d like to hear more about, let us know! We’ll see if we can feature it on a future edition of CDP Voices. Also, don’t forget to read this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with the latest in news, journal articles and useful links from all around the Web.

That’s it for this time around. We hope everyone has a great weekend and we’ll see you back here next week!
