CDP News: Oct. 17, 2014

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We had a shortened week after the holiday on Monday, but we still managed to squeeze a few events into the remaining days this week!

On Tuesday and Wednesday, CDP Deputy Director, Dr. Bill Brim presented a training on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) in Turin, Italy. The training was for a diverse group of providers from across Europe and Africa. It’s always nice to be able to reach out to new groups of providers we don’t usually get the chance to interact with. Not quite as far away, we also presented another CBT-I event just down the road at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

This weekend marks the kickoff of the latest iteration of our Military and Veteran Behavioral Health Post-Master’s Certificate Program. The CDP has partnered with Widener University in Chester, PA to present a slate of courses that are presented over three weekends. These courses are designed to help providers address the emotional struggles and psychological health needs of military personnel, Veterans and their family members. After successfully finishing the course, participants receive a certificate of completion directly from Widener University. For more information on this and other certificate programs CDP offers, check out our Certificate Program section of the website.

Also on Tuesday and Wednesday, we held our first two “open houses” in Adobe Connect to get participants ready for the online Prolonged Exposure Training (PE) we’re holding at the end of this month.  We’ve got two more next Thursday and Friday. If you weren’t able to register for this training, but are interested in attending, keep a close eye on our training calendar. In the next few weeks, we may be opening up registration for an online PE training event in December.

Speaking of December, registration for our Southeast Regional Civilian 1-Week Training event is continuing. The event will be held 8-12 December in Miami, FL. If you’re looking for the opportunity to get some great training in a beautiful environment, this is for you! For more information or to register, head over to the 1-Week Training section of our website.

Don’t forget to read this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with the latest in news, journal articles and useful links from all around the Web.

That’s it for this time around. We hope everyone gets out and enjoys the weekend! We’ll see you back here next week for a new entry in the By the Numbers column.
