Our Mission: The CDP trains military and civilian behavioral health professionals to provide the high quality care necessary to address the deployment–related needs of military personnel and their families.

Research

Although the primary mission of the CDP is to educate and train behavioral health professionals, to accomplish this mission it is necessary to develop a solid empirical knowledge base. It is clear that we are just beginning to understand the emotional and psychological impact of military deployment on service members and their families and the CDP will play a role in advancing research in this area. Research at the CDP will provide information to help develop CDP training programs and to guide policymakers.  To support these research efforts, the CDP will establish a research fellowship in deployment psychology.

CDP research will encompass three broad areas of inquiry.

  1. Documenting the deployment-related needs of service members and their families with particular attention to the increased stress associated with multiple deployments.
  2. Examining the effectiveness of interventions aimed at addressing the needs of service members and their families.
  3. Evaluation of methods for effectively disseminating deployment-related information to professionals, with particular attention to improving the impact of CDP programs.
